Some weddings just fall into place like they were always meant to be, and Rea & Juwan’s was one of those days. They reached out kind of last minute, right between a stretch of my boat trips, and I had lined up a proxy photographer just in case I couldn’t make it back in time. But as luck would have it, I was able to be there in person — and I couldn’t be more grateful I was.
Their ceremony took place in the lush greenhouse at Rooted, surrounded by color, light, and the kind of natural beauty that feels timeless in Kodiak. Rea carried the most stunning bouquet of dahlias and peonies — bold, soft, and absolutely breathtaking. Every little detail was intentional, but it never felt overdone.
After their vows, we wandered into portraits that felt effortless, full of laughter and those quiet in-between moments that tell the real story. Their reception was small, intimate, and filled with so much joy. Plates of incredible food from Nuniaq were passed around, and family gathered close to celebrate together.
What struck me most wasn’t just how beautiful the setting was (and it truly was — the florals alone were to die for), but how clear it was that Rea & Juwan are each other’s home. They laughed, they smiled, they shared their joy with everyone around them. It was love in its most genuine, colorful, and heartfelt form.
I’m so thankful I got to witness and document their day — a perfect reminder that sometimes the most meaningful celebrations are the ones woven together simply, with heart.
