Some sessions stay with you forever—and this one had me shaking just as much as they were.
Danielle and Nate booked a sunset portrait session on Near Island while visiting Kodiak from Anchorage. I knew they were sweet and stylish (Danielle’s green gingham dress and Nate’s boots were chef’s kiss), but I had no idea what was about to unfold.
We walked through wildflowers and golden evening light, chatting and soaking in the view. Then, on a hilltop overlooking the mountains and the sea, Nate quietly flashed a ring from his back pocket—my heart just about stopped. This proposal wasn’t just a surprise for Danielle… it was a surprise for me too.
I had Danielle turn away to face the mountains, and with Nate behind her, ready and steady, I asked her to turn around. The look on her face was everything—shock, joy, love, all in one breath. After a beautiful, heartfelt conversation between them (which I gave them space to fully enjoy), she said yes.
I jumped back in for the last bits of golden light as they held each other close, and honestly, it felt like the whole island paused to watch them. Nate couldn’t stop praising Danielle—her heart, her strength, her deep commitment to her family. It was clear that this wasn’t just a proposal—it was the beginning of something built on admiration and deep, intentional love.
Though it was Nate’s first time in Kodiak, he knew how much this place meant to her. That’s why he chose it—because it’s a place she truly loves, and he wanted this memory rooted in somewhere meaningful.
To Danielle and Nate: thank you for letting me witness such a sacred moment. I didn’t see it coming, but I’m so grateful I was there to capture the start of something beautiful.
